This advanced robotics course is designed for students who are ready to move beyond a standard robotic car and explore camera-based remote operation, wireless networking, and multi-board electronics. In this course, children aged 11 and up will build and program an FPV (First Person View) robotic vehicle from the ground up. The robot is based on an ESP32 WROOM development board, a DRV8833 motor driver, two DC motors, two servo motors, and two digital brightness sensors for line detection. A separate ESP32-CAM board is added as an independent wireless video module, allowing students to stream live video from the robot to a phone, tablet, or computer browser.

Description

The first phase of the course focuses on the main robotic platform. Students will test the motors, sensors, and servos, then program the robot to follow a line using digital brightness sensors. They will learn how sensor readings can be transformed into movement decisions such as driving forward, turning left, turning right, or stopping.

In the second phase, students will connect and program a separate ESP32-CAM board. The camera module will stream live video over Wi-Fi, introducing students to the idea of an FPV robot - a robot that can be viewed and operated from its own onboard camera. Students will learn that the camera board runs its own program and can provide a video stream through a browser, while the main ESP32 board remains responsible for movement, sensors, and servo control.

This project introduces important engineering concepts such as embedded programming, motor control, sensor-based decisions, servo motion, Wi-Fi networking, video streaming, and communication between electronic modules. It also gives students practical experience with a more realistic robotic architecture, where different boards are responsible for different tasks. As with all our courses, each student’s learning path is personalized according to their interests and goals, discussed individually during enrollment. This ensures a meaningful and engaging experience tailored to each participant.

By the end of the course, students will have built and programmed a camera-equipped robotic vehicle and gained hands-on experience with electronics, Arduino C programming, line following, servo control, Wi-Fi video streaming, and multi-board robotics.

Term dates

This course has 10 lessons. Classes run from 13.10 to 14.10 every Saturday.

This course is suitable for students aged 11 and up. Girls and boys are very welcome!

As with all our courses, each student’s learning path is personalized according to their interests and goals, discussed individually during enrollment. This ensures a meaningful and engaging experience tailored to each participant.

By the end of the course, students will have gained hands-on experience with advanced robotic systems, including mechanics, electronics, wireless networking, and logic-based control --preparing them for even more ambitious robotics challenges ahead.

This is a next level course designed for students who already have some foundational experience in robotics and coding. To get the most out of this course, the following requirements must be met:

Computer Skills: You should feel confident using a computer, keyboard, and mouse at a good user level.

Basic File Management: You should understand how to save and open files, what files and folders are, and how to organize them on a computer.

Interest and Persistence: You are excited about programming robots and ready to face the challenges that come with learning advanced robotic systems.

Prior Robotics Experience: Previous experience working with a robotic vehicle is strongly recommended. This could be with various robotics kits using block-based or even text-based coding.

Course Prerequisite: Ideally, you have completed our course "Robotics with Robium Car: Block-Based Coding for Young Engineers", as it lays the essential groundwork needed for this advanced program.
